Master is a discipline test. At 43 clues, nearly three quarters of the grid must be deduced, and the justification for a single move can span three or four regions. The level rewards players who work in systems, not sparks.
What changes at 43 clues
Isolated deductions dry up. Almost every placement now sits at the end of a chain: a color eliminated here because a pair lives there, which forces a digit elsewhere, which frees exactly one candidate in the target cell. Master is Expert’s toolkit, applied at depth.
Deep scanning, systematically
Do not hunt randomly. Sweep digit 1 through all nine colors, then digit 2, and so on; then sweep the colors. A full 18-sweep pass over the board takes a few minutes and almost always surfaces the next forced move. When stuck, the answer is another pass, not a guess — a unique logical path always exists.
Trust the 81 pairs
At this depth the 81-pair constraint is your strongest ally: with ~120 facts missing, whole-board pair eliminations prune more candidates than any row or region. Keep a mental (or noted) list of which pairs are already placed.
Managing the long game
Master grids take time. Protect your accuracy: verify each chain before placing, because one wrong link costs minutes of unwinding. The error counter (8 allowed) and the 5-hint budget are generous enough to finish — but a clean Master win is the real goal.
When to move up
If you close most Master grids hint-free, only Diabolic (36 clues) is left — the summit. Warm up with the Daily Challenge to keep your speed sharp between deep sessions.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Master color sudoku take?
Expect a substantially longer solve than Expert: with 43 clues, most placements conclude multi-region deduction chains. Systematic scanning keeps the time under control.
What is deep scanning?
A full sweep of every digit across all 9 colors and every color across all 9 digits — 18 passes that surface the next forced move without guessing.
Are Master grids really solvable without guessing?
Yes. Each grid comes from a CP-SAT-verified bank with a proven unique solution reachable by logic alone.
